Blue Twins, 2025

70 x 100 cm, Acryl on Canvas
Thomas Düwer creates two variations of the same figure, each asserting itself like a mirror image and amplifying the other’s allure. The composition thrives on the strict frontality of the back views, the precision of the silhouettes, and the exuberant sheen of the lacquered coats. At the same time, the iconography of doubling introduces a subtle visual trick, guiding the eye to look again. The red version stages a nocturnal city with wet asphalt, reflections, and a faint current of restlessness. The color gleams with a saturated, dreamlike intensity. The blue version opens the space, introducing clarity, dimension, and a cool elegance. The two works do not compete; instead, they expand the theme of the silhouette across two tonal registers and grant it a kind of visual quadrature. Düwer’s painterly language carries the same determined rhythm in both red and blue. The question of a favorite color remains deliberately unresolved, and one is tempted to take both works together to continue exploring the implications of their quadrupling within one’s own space.
