Axel Crieger
Axel Crieger
Axel Crieger (born 1955 in Munich) has developed a distinctive artistic position since the 1990s, situated between Neo-Pop and conceptual photography. His digital collages transform icons of pop culture and film history into psychologically condensed pictorial spaces, operating less as documentation than as a visually analytical form of reflection.
After studying Visual Communication, his career as an art director and photographer led him through the creative capitals of New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Milan. This cosmopolitan experience continues to shape his work for international media and clients ranging from Vogue to HBO.
His artistic method combines photographic precision with digital montage. In the series Headshots, featuring portraits from Steve McQueen to Muhammad Ali, he constructs stage-like, symbolically charged environments. Warhol’s Pop Art aesthetics are expanded into a narrative and image-theoretical dimension. This approach is exemplified in his series on Chanel No. 5, where the iconic perfume bottle becomes the central motif of surreal arrangements. His visual language moves between admiration and critical reflection on media-driven mythologies. These digitally composed scenarios do not document historical truth, but create fictional narratives of collective desire. His works are represented internationally, from Los Angeles to Seoul, and are regularly shown at major art fairs. And in our gallery!
Living between Lissabon and New York, Crieger positions himself as a chronicler of the media-based visual memory. His works reflect the contemporary dissolution of boundaries between subject and staging, between remembrance and construction, which defines today’s relationship to the icon.

Axel Crieger’s depiction of Jealousy is as glamorous as it is somber. Amazing textures and colors shine through the dark undertones of this extremely limited edition work of art. The scene is set by shimmering light, and this is a piece of art that will do just that on the wall.
