In this collage-like work, Devin Miles evokes the visual memory of New York City: the iconic Statue of Liberty, yellow taxis, a water tower, Wall Street and the Empire State Building are condensed into an urban palimpsest. The US flags appear distorted – their stars transformed into red triangles, the stripes shifted horizontally – questioning patriotic pathos.
