Welle, 2024

60 x 180 cm, Oil on Canvas
The wave fills almost the entire image, occupying the space like a mighty wall. Its interior is suffused with a particular light, the green not applied but radiating from the water itself. The color thrives on the contrast between this warm, almost golden-green glow and the cool blues and grays of its surroundings. At the upper edge, the foam carries the brightness of the sky into the body of the wave, while below, along the shore, the movement reflects in broad, silvery planes. The relation of height to width amplifies the wave’s presence—it appears vast and self-contained, the image dominated by its momentum. The North Sea in its purest form.
