In urban faces – Mila, Berlin, Sabina Bockmühle combines figurative portrait painting with urban photorealism. The left half of the picture is expressively painted over, rich in colour and full of energy – a painterly portrait of a young woman with a smoky gesture, bright red hair and a confident gaze. Her individuality is emphasised by tattoos, jewellery and a headscarf, yet at the same time she seems to dissolve into floral and abstract areas of colour – as if she herself were part of an urban collage.
